Ravi Kumar has won the second bronze medal for India in the Commonwealth Games after weightlifter Deepak Lather managed the first on Day 2. Participating in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle event, Ravi amassed a total score of 224.1 after Deepak Kumar bowed out in third elimination round.

After qualifying for the finals in the first two spots, both Indian shooters - Deepak Kumar and Ravi Kumar - mellowed down as the elimination stage progressed. After both of them could only manage 9.6 in the first round, they picked up the momentum. However, despite scoring above 10 and 9.9 in the next two rounds, they were at the sixth and seventh spot after the first two rounds.

It was in the two-shot rounds that finally saw the Indians improving their places as Deepak moved up to fifth place with a score of 101.3, while Ravi was reeling at the rock bottom. However, Ravi remained fortunate as Singapore’s M.I.A Rahman bowed out in that round to give Ravi another chance that he took brilliantly.

Finishing the first elimination round in the bottom two places, the duo notched up their gear. Deepak and Ravi improved their score by shooting 10.9 and 10.8 respectively. It secured their places for the time being with Ravi even moving to the third position. However, Deepak couldn’t keep his consistency and got knocked out in the next round as Ravi kept soaring up.

The close game saw Wales’ Michael Bamsey getting eliminated and the next one forced Ravi to have a shootout with Alex Hoberg. Ravi does brilliantly to assure a bronze for the country by shooting 10.4 to Hoberg’s 10.2. However, he couldn’t keep up with Dane Sampson and Abdullah Hel Baki thereafter as he ended his campaign with a score of 224.1 His bronze takes India’s medal tally to 10.
