India’s shooting prodigy, Muskan Bhanwala, won India’s fourth individual gold medal at the International Shooting Federation Junior World Cup on Wednesday. The 16-year-old won her first gold medal after finishing on top in the 25m pistol women junior event in Sydney with a total score of 35.

Apart from Muskan Bhanwala, China’s Qin Sihang and Thailand’s 16-year-old Kanyakom Hirunphoem sealed the first three podium spots as they bagged silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the ISSF Junior World Championship, which was organized in Germany last year, Bhanwala had finished fourth. But this time, she took it one step further by clinching gold after taking the lead in the sixth round with the help of the perfect 5-hit series. Apart from the teenager, there were three other Indians in the fray in the final, with 16-year-old Manu Bhaker finishing fourth with 18 hits and 18-year-old Arunima Gaur seventh.

India continued their good performance in the team event as Bhaker, Muskan, and Devanshi Rana won gold while Mahima Turhi Agrawal and Tanu Rawal bagged the silver medal. The bronze medal was won by Thailand’s Hirunphoem, Viramon KidarnandLuxciga Srinitivoravong.

In the ongoing tournament, India currently lead the medal tally with 22 medals comprising of nine golds, five silvers and eight bronze medals.
