Sania Mirza has praised talented Javelin thrower and Asian Games medalist Neeraj Chopra for his sporting gesture towards his Pakistani opponent Arshad Nadeem after the Indian won a gold at the Asiad. Tweeting about it, Mirza has written that the field of sports is the best form of education.

Neeraj shattered his own national record by clearing a distance of 88.06m on Monday to give India only their second medal in the javelin throw event at the Asian Games. On the other hand, Nadeem settled for a bronze with a personal best of 80.75m.

During the medal ceremony Neeraj was seen shaking hands with Nadeem and congratulating the Pakistani. It was this warm gesture that caught the eye of tennis star Mirza, who praised the athlete for his sportsmanship, equality, and respect.

Speaking about the experience, Nadeem praised Chopra and said the Indian inspires him a lot. He further said he would like to have a foreign coach someday, just like Chopra, who has a great technique.

“Neeraj is an amazing talent. I have competed with him about eight times now including the SAFF Championships in India and Asian Junior Championships. But he has a foreign coach and I don’t. His achievements inspire me and my goal is to emulate him one day. He has got a great technique and I am sure he has got full support from the government,” Nadeem said.
