Ramnadeep Singh has been ruled out of the ongoing 2018 FIH Champions Trophy, that’s being played in the Netherlands, after MRI reports confirmed that the forward had suffered a knee injury. He was influential in India’s 4 - 0 win over Pakistan in the opening round of the tournament on the weekend.

Ramnadeep Singh, who was part of the Indian team that won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, has been ruled out of the ongoing 2018 FIH Champions Trophy in the Netherlands. The Punjab-born forward suffered a knee injury during the match against Pakistan and was ruled out of the rest of the tournament. MRI reports confirmed that Ramnadeep will not be able to feature for the Indian team ahead of their crucial encounter against Australia tomorrow.

“Ramandeep complained about a pinch in his right knee at half-time during our match against Pakistan. But when we rested him for Argentina match and took him for an MRI, it was revealed that he has sustained a full thickness chondral fracture-injury in the center of his right knee,” explained chief coach Harendra Singh.

With one key player out, India will have to face Australia, Belgium, and the Netherlands in must-win matches in order to make the finals of the tournament. Ramandeep had set the momentum right for India after he scored the team’s first goal. He even assisted Lalit Upadhyay in the 60th minute of the match as India secured a commanding 4-0 over their rivals.

“We will certainly miss him, we missed him against Argentina too. He is an experienced player and the way he creates space and takes shots on goal has worked for the team. Playing high-speed hockey with 17 players can get a bit tiring for the players. But that should not be a deterrent in our pursuit to earn a place in the final”, Harendra added.
