The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) has announced the appointment of Dragan Mihailovic as the new head coach of the Indian men’s volleyball team on Friday. The federation also appointed Pryemyslaw Gaszyoski and Valadimir Radosevic as physio trainer and physiotherapist respectively.

With a target of making it to the Olympics, the Volleyball Federation of India has now appointed Serbia’s Dragan Mihailovic as the new coach of the men’s team.  The Serbian has a vast experience of more than 25 years as a coach. He has also won a lot of medals with the Serbian team as their assistant coach at the World and European Championships. Mihailovic’s experience of working with reputed clubs like Orestiada and Panathinaikos is expected to come in handy for the Indian men’s side.

"It gives me great pleasure to be associated with the Indian national team. There is immense talent here and I am excited to work with them. I am also excited to be working with Pryemyslaw and Valadimir and will look to deliver results and take Indian volleyball to greater heights during our time here," Mihailovic told PTI.

Apart from the coach, Pryemyslaw Gaszyoski and Valadimir Radosevic were also appointed by the federation as the physio trainer and physiotherapist of the team respectively.

Besides the men's national team, the trio will also look after the men's U-23 team and other junior teams representing India. All the three have been appointed for five months and will work with the team for the Asian Championships scheduled to be held in Iran in September.

VFI Secretary General Ramavtar Jakhar has stated that appointments have been made by the federation keeping an Olympic berth in mind for the future.

"We have tried to put together a great support staff who can work closely with the team to help them get closer to the Olympic dream. While that remains the long term goal, we also hope to secure an Asian Games medal and participate in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in near future," Jakhar said in a VFI release.
