Military World Games | Shivpal Singh bags javelin gold ; Gurpreet Singh wins silver in shooting

Indian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh won a gold medal, while shooter Gurpreet Singh bagged a bronze medal in men's 25m Center Fire Pistol event on Thursday in the CISM Military World Games in Wuhan, China. Para-athlete Anandan Gunasekaran clinched his third gold of the Games in the 200m IT1 event.

Indian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh won a gold medal, while shooter Gurpreet Singh bagged a bronze medal in men's 25m Center Fire Pistol event on Thursday in the ongoing seventh International Military Sports Council (CISM) Military World Games in Wuhan, China. 

24-year-old Shivpal, who is in the air force and hails from Chandauli village (about 30km from Varanasi), threw a best of 83.33m to claim top honours. Shivpal had won a silver medal earlier in the Asian Championships with a personal best throw of 86.23m, held in Doha in April this year.

Gurpreet, who won a silver medal at the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships in Changwon, South Korea, shot a total of 585 to finish third on the podium. 

After claiming top honours in the men's disabled 100m and 400m IT1 events earlier, para-athlete Anandan Gunasekaran won the gold in men's disabled 200m IT1 event to clinch his third gold of the Games. He won the 200m IT1 event with a timing of 24.31s. 

China is hosting the Military World Games for the first time. Over 10,000 athletes from more than 140 countries are taking part in events spread across 27 different sports.
