ENG vs SL | Twitter and England dugout shocked as Nasser Hussain falls off his seat watching Chris Woakes bowl spin
The beauty of Test cricket lies in its extraordinary way of captivating the unexpected turns in a contest. But one might not have visualized or thought of this rare footage of watching a pacer turn into a spinner, as was the case with Chris Woakes on the second session of the third Test.
The middle and lower order of England failed to extend their batting brilliance in the second session of the second day against Sri Lanka. The increased usage of aerial strokes led to their quick departure as the Three Lions ended up with 325 runs on the board. Following Lunch, the Sri Lankan innings resumed before the gloomy weather conditions forced the hosts to bring up a bitter surprise that left the English dugout and the commentators utterly shocked.
Following a brilliant run out to remove Dimuth Karunaratne for nine, the on-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Joel Wilson used the light meter to detect the darkness at the venue. They asked the English skipper Ollie Pope if only spin could be used under this amount of light. After a brief discussion with Woakes, the Warwickshire pacer was seen adapted to spin bowling. With a leg slip, short leg, and a slip in place, the bowler lost his control and bowled a widish delivery on the fourth ball of the over.Ā
Having known about Woakesā weakness in bowling spin, Joe Root had a grim written across his face while Ben Stokes and the rest of the English dug out was in utter shock. The all-rounder resorted to heading back to the dressing room seeing this while Nasser Hussain at the commentary box fell off his seat while trying to turn to his right. The share of emotions were equally divided in the Twitterverse on this rare sight.

What a spin!
Due to the umpires' decision to be too dark for pace, Chris Woakes had to bowl four off-spin balls to complete an over.š#ENGvSLĀ #EnglandCricketĀ #WTC25Ā pic.twitter.com/eqACnGsBWx
