Reports | Nasir Jamshed takes a flip as he pleads guilty in bribery case
Banned Pakistan opener Nasir Jamshed has taken a reverse call as he pleaded guilty to bribery charges that were imposed on him in December 2018 by British's National Crime Agency (NCA). In January 2019, he denied all charges that were levied against him for his unethical work in PSL in the court.
It came to everyone’s surprise when Nasir Jamshed, who has been banned for 10 years for his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal in PSL, took a u-turn admitting his wrongdoing in the bribery case in court.
"Three men have been charged with bribery offences as part of an NCA investigation into cricket match spot-fixing in tournaments organised by national cricket boards from Pakistan and Bangladesh," the British agency(NCA) said last year.
Yousef Anwar and Mohammed Ijaz are the two players who have admitted to having tried to bribe players with the intention of getting them to underperform in the PSL. PCB stamped a 10-year ban for Jamshed who is considered to be the main offender in the case. In January 2019, Jamshed denied all allegations against him regarding bribery case before he pleaded guilty.
According to an AFP report, the prosecutor at the hearing said that a policeman had gone clandestine, pretending to be a member of a betting syndicate. He discovered an attempted fix by the trio in the Bangladesh Premier League in 2016 and a fix in PSL 2017.
Jamshed was attempted bribery in BPL before he actually helped the briber and tried to influence other players to spot fix in a PSL game between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi in Dubai on February 9. February 9 2020, has been set as the date for the sentencing of the trio.
