After Sudha Singh, OP Jaisha tests positive for swine flu
Marathon runner OP Jaisha, who returned from Rio last week after participating in the Olympics, has been hospitalised in Bengaluru after testing positive for swine flu. This comes few days after another athlete, Sudha Singh, was hospitalised for the same.
OP Jaisha had competed in the women’s marathon event at the recently-concluded Rio Olympics and had finished 89th with a timing of 2:47.19. The long distance runner also started a controversy after returning to the country by claiming that she collapsed at the end of the Marathon because the Indian officials failed to provide her water during the race. But, she was hospitalised on Thursday after testing positive for H1N1.
"Jaisha, who arrived in Bengaluru with fever and body ache, has been hospitalised at the Fortis hospital at Bannerghatta, as per the information I had received so far from SAI doctors," Sports Authority of India Regional director Shyam Sunder told PTI in Bengaluru.
Shyam Sunder said that it was an arduous task to convince Jaisha for a blood sample after she refused their counselling and even moved out of the SAI premises.
"It was an arduous task to convince Jaisha to get her blood samples tested at the virology institute. She ignored our counselling and moved out of the SAI premises on 21 August after applying for leave," he said.
"Finally, after she was located Thursday, the state health officials visited her and convinced her to get her blood samples tested," he said.
The results of the test came on Thursday and Jaisha was immediately hospitalised at the Fortis hospital at Bannerghatta.
Another athlete Sudha Singh was hospitalised for the same few days ago. First, she was undergoing treatment and medication for suspected Zika virus, before she tested positive for swine flu.
