Usain Bolt shocked by the death of 'very close friend' Germaine Mason

Germaine Mason lost his life in a motor crash in Jamaica and sprint king Usain Bolt who was also caught up in the pile-up is in shock at the loss Mason who was a very close friend of Bolt. 34- year old Mason won the silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the high jump event.

Mason passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning after losing control of his motorcycle in Kingston and according to to the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper, Bolt, Jamaica's eight-time Olympic sprint champion and 11-time world champion, and fellow sprinter Michael Frater were immediately at the scene as they were riding convoy with Mason when the incident took place.

Police senior superintendent Calvin Allen told BBC, "Usain Bolt was part of the group that came by and he was very, very emotional, and still is.”

Bill Sweeney, the chief executive of the BOA also paid his condolences and tribute to Mason as he was reported by TOI as saying, "The whole of the British Olympic Association is incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Germaine Mason.”

“Germaine was a great athlete, an Olympian and a silver medal-winning part of Team GB who made history at Beijing 2008. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time."

2012 London Olympic winner heptathlon winner Jess Ennis-Hill also expressed her grief tweeting, "This is just awful. Such sad news".
