Athlete Lakshmanan Govindan, who bagged the bronze medal in the men’s 10,000m finals, has had his medal revoked due to disqualification for an incident that occurred during the race at the Asian Games. Lakshmanan has been disqualified based on IAAF 163.3b, which is for the lane infringement.

The Indian contingent have racked up a total of 35 medals at the ongoing Asian Games being held in the cities of Palembang and Jakarta in Indonesia. That Tally includes seven gold, nine silver, and 19 bronze medals since the start of the competition. However, it could have easily been 36, had the officials not overturned the bronze medal won by Indian athlete - Lakhsmanan Govindan in the 10,000m finals.

Lakshmanan was stripped of his bronze medal in the men's 10,000m. The 28-year old was disqualified for lane infringement in Jakarta on Sunday. The senior officials opted to disqualify the Indian runner under IAAF 163.3b (lane infringement) which came from after video footage revealed his foot touched the inside track on one occasion during the entire race.

Lakshmanan had finished the race in third with an impressive time of 29:44.91 behind Chani Hassan of Bahrain, who won gold with a time 28:35.54, and Bahrain's Cheroben Abraham, who recorded a time of 29:00.29. China's Changhong Zhao will now be awarded the bronze medal, after Lakshmanan’s disqualification.

However, Athletics Federation of India tweeted that they are looking at the situation and will decide on the course of action after consulting the coaches in their power.

"Team management is on to it. We spoke to Coach Surender Singh and according to him if the athlete has not gained any advantage over others, it should not be a DQ. Let's wait and see from team management to update," tweeted AFI.
