India started the main draw of the Singapore Open on a positive note as PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal registered straight games win against Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky and Yulia Yosephin Susanto respectively. In other game, young Mugdha Agrey bowed out after doing well in the qualifiers.

Coming against Mainaky, Sindhu was always expected to emerge victorious in the end and she did that in the easiest of ways. The whole match didn’t last even half an hour as Sindhu raced past the 22-year-old 21-9, 21-7 to book a place in the pre-quarterfinals. She will be taking on Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt next.

Saina Nehwal also had an easy task about in her hands when she was up against Indonesia’s Yulia Yosephin Susanto. However, her win was not as dominant as Sindhu’s, as Nehwal had to fight 43 minutes before emerging victorious 21-16, 21-11 against the 25-year-old. She will be facing Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong next in the pre-quarterfinals.

Apart from the big games, India saw 19-year-old Agrey failing 6-21, 8-21 to Pornpawee while the men’s doubles duo of B Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy lost in straight games to Singapore's Danny Bawa Christina and Loh Kean Hean 13-21, 17-21.

In the mixed doubles category, Saurabh Sharma and Anoushka Parikh lost 12-21, 21-21 to Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, as Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy overcame compatriots MR Arjun and Maneesha K 21-18, 21-17.
