Chess | B Adhiban stays in first place in Reykjavik Open, Nihal Sarin joint second
Indian Grandmaster B Adhiban, who started the tournament as the fourth-ranked player, has managed to retain his place at the top of the standings alongside top seed Richard Rapport. However, after a draw in round seven, Nihal Sarin has dropped a place and is now placed in second position.
Adhiban, who was playing with black pieces, managed to pull
13-year-old Nihal Sarin, who is still an International Master, was able to secure a draw against Turkish Grandmaster, Mustafa Yilmaz while playing with black pieces. The result was that the Indian dropped a place to second position in the standings. Sarin now shares the spot with compatriot Vaibhav Suri, who while playing with white pieces, got the better of Gabriel Bick.
After seven rounds of action, Adhiban has managed to collect a total of six points - the same as Rapport. Due to an extra draw, Sarin and Suri, on the other hand, are both trailing the senior Indian by half a point with 5.5 points on the board.
