India U-19 trainer found dead in his hotel room
Rajesh Sawant, the strength and conditioning trainer of the Indian Under-19 cricket team, was found dead in his hotel room in Mumbai on Sunday. Although there is yet to be an official confirmation, initial reports suggest that Rajesh Sawant had suffered a heart-attack in his sleep.
Rajesh Sawant, who had previously been associated with the India A and the Rest of India sides, did not turn up for a practice session in the morning, and this led to the team members looking for him in his hotel room, where he was found lifeless.
"What I have gathered so far is he did not report for team activities in the morning, so people started looking for him and eventually he was found to have been passed away in his room. I have asked Prof (Ratnakar) Shetty to visit the site and keep me updated,” Amitabh Choudhary, the BCCI's joint secretary, told
Ratnakar Shetty later informed that initial reports suggest that Sawant had a cardiac arrest in his sleep. He told CricketNext, "Sawant didn't report for team activities and when officials tried to check in his room, he was found dead. In all probability, it is a case of a heart-attack as he died in his sleep. As of now, the police are investigating the matter and once they complete their investigation, the body will be sent for a post-mortem."
Apart from working with the India A team, when they played England recently, and the U-19 side, Sawant had previously worked with the Afghanistan national team. He was also part of the Irani Cup tournament with the Rest of India side. The Indian U-19 team, with whom Sawant was currently working, will play five ODIs and two four-day Tests against the England U-19 team.
