Cricket West Indies has decided to bring in uncapped seamer Sherman Lewis in place of Alzarri Joseph for the Test series against India which is scheduled to be played next month. Joseph had suffered a stress fracture last year in November and he has been advised to continue his rehabilitation.

The Windies cricket team will tour India from October to play Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, but just before the start of the series, there is an injury worry for the Caribbean side with the CWI medical panel recommending that the medium pacer should be "allowed to continue his rehabilitation to full fitness for international competitions." Now with the Antigua cricketer being ruled out, the board has announced young Sherman Lewis as his replacement.

Making his first-class debut for the Windward Islands in March, Lewis picked up 30 wickets in his first season at an average of 21.66 in four-day matches. He was also selected for the Windies A side for England tour and in one game against the India A side, he scalped four wickets in each innings to ensure a draw. The pacer has also played two List A matches in his career so far.

Although Joseph had suffered a stress fracture last November, he played international cricket even after injury in the home series against Bangladesh in July and was also a part of the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots playing XI during the Caribbean Premier League.

Joseph will continue his rehabilitation programme, under the vigil of medical officials at the High-Performance Centre in Antigua, while a few players of the Test squad have started their preparation for the Test series by training at ICC Academy in Dubai.
