The India U-19 team were all out for 244 in 49.3 overs in their youth one-dayer tri-series match against Bangladesh U-19 on Wednesday. Having won the toss, captain Subhang Hegde opted to bat and top-scored with a 97-ball 69, while Sameer Rizvi made a quickfire 44 off just 32 balls.
The 11th game of the tri-nation under-19s tournament was played between India U19s and Bangladesh U19s at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. Both teams had already qualified for the final scheduled on Monday. The third team in the tournament, England U19, didn’t even manage a win on home soil.
Both India U19 and Bangladesh U19 had previously one a game each against each other at this tournament. Although the third meeting was effectively a dead rubber, both sides looked to head to the final on a winning note.
India U19 won the toss, and Hegde – replacing Priyam Garg as captain for this match – opted to bat. After being reduced to 65/4 in the 15th over, the decision seemed like the wrong one. Openers Priyesh Patel (8) and Tilak Varma (1) got out cheaply. Pragnesh Kanpillewar, at No.3, contributed 21, while No.4 Shashwat Rawat was dismissed for 9 runs.
Then, it was the captain, together with a counter-attacking blitz from Rizvi that pulled India U19 out of trouble. Down the order, Divyansh Saxena (37) and Karan Lal (25) also made crucial contributions – sharing 73 runs between them for the seventh wicket. In the end, however, India’s twice rain-interrupted innings ended at 244 all out in 49.3 overs.
For Bangladesh U-19, Shoriful Islam, Avishek Das and Shamim Hossain took three wickets apiece while Shahin Alam got one. Rains followed just after the India U-19 innings got over. The Bangladesh U-19 run chase began after a short delay.
