Enoch Nkwe, on Friday, was named South Africa's interim Team Director for the upcoming T20I and Test series in India, starting on September 15. The appointment comes after Cricket South Africa’s decision to revamp the management structure saw Ottis Gibson exit from his role as head coach.

After the national team’s disappointing show at the 2019 World Cup, CSA are looking at major restructuring of the coaching staff. Nkwe will take over the responsibilities of head coach and also certain responsibilities of team manager. The former Lions and Gauteng's batsman will be provided the opportunity to pick the rest of the coaching staff for the tour of India. The tour will comprise three T20 internationals and three Test matches.

The official announcement came from Corrie van Zyl, the acting director of cricket.

"We are pleased to announce Enoch Nkwe as the interim team director of the Standard Bank Proteas for the tour to India. His appointment is as a result of his merits and balanced approach and is someone who compliments the direction that will be taken by the team going forward," van Zyl was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

36-year-old Nkwe recently coached the Lions to the title in the Four-Day Franchise series in the 2018-19 season. He was also at the helm of Jozi Stars, who won the inaugural Mzansi Super League. On hearing the news, Nkwe expressed his delight in the opportunity before him.

"It is a tremendous honour and privilege to lead the Standard Bank Proteas as the interim team director. It is a special moment for me and my family and I will do my best to make a difference in this interim period. I am extremely excited about the challenge that lies ahead and am looking forward to meeting all players and staff. Thanks also to Cricket South Africa for giving me this opportunity and hopefully we will return from India with positive results," Nkwe noted.
