Jaydev Shah elected president of Saurashtra Cricket Association
Saurashtra Cricket Association held their elections as per the reformed constitution which saw the recently retired Jaydev Shah named as its President. The election results for other posts were also declared, with five office bearers and an 11 member supporting council formed to run operations.
With the Committee of Administrators’ deadline for the state units holding elections fast approaching, the Saurashtra Cricket Association went ahead with the procedures the results of which were declared on Saturday by electoral officer Varesh Sinha. The elections were held after the constitution had been modified to align with the BCCI’s new constitution based on the Lodha panel’s recommendations and ratified by the Supreme Court.
The polls saw former Saurashtra cricketer Jaydev Shah emerging as President. The 36-year-old holds the record for captaining Saurashtra a record 110 times, having led them to the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2007-08 as well as the final of the Ranji Trophy in 2012-13 and then again three years later. He is the son of ex-BCCI official Niranjan Shah and had decided to hang up his boots only in December of last year.
Meanwhile, Dipak Lakhani was named as his deputy while Himanshu Shah was appointed honorary Secretary. Karan Shah was elected honorary Joint Secretary while Shyam Raichura managed to claim the post of the honorary treasurer. The process was overlooked by Varesh Sinha who in the past has served as Gujarat’s chief secretary as well as its Chief Election Commissioner.
