The participation of Men’s and Women’s Indian cricket team in Asian Games to be held in September this year looks uncertain and the BCCI has said that the decision will be taken considering existing commitments. Cricket will make a comeback in the Asian Games which are to be held from September 10.

Cricket was first inducted in the Asian games in 2010 and it has been a part of the games in two editions so far. The sport is now set to make a comeback in 2022 Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou. The fans were expecting Indian men’s and women’s teams to participate in the games but existing commitments might prevent them from doing so.

Indian Men’s team are scheduled to play T20 World Cup in Australia from October 16 following the Asian Games scheduled from September 10 to 25. Women’s team are going to participate  in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July-August also looks uncertain. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the decision will be taken based on existing commitments.

"As far as the Asian Games in Hangzhou is concerned, a final decision on whether to send both men's and women's teams will be taken later and based on our existing commitments," BCCI secretary Jay Shah told Reuters.

The Women’s team are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is coinciding with the schedule of the Asian Games. Shah revealed that it is important to honor bilateral commitments.

"The BCCI has always stood by member boards and helped them in these difficult times. The board firmly believes in honouring its bilateral commitments. We are committed to our fans here in India and it is absolutely important that we safeguard our home season. The FTP [Future Tours Programme] that has been created it needs to be adhered to,” he stated.
