Yesterday, all the ICC officials and Chairman of different cricket boards around the world gathered in Ahmedabad. They were present for the ICC meeting, which was scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad.

During the meeting, several discussions took place on the matters. And one of them was related to Canada, an associate team, which also played in the T20 World Cup 2026. It has been confirmed that the Canadian team has been suspended as a member of the ICC. The ICC also gave a reason for the same, stating, “serious breaches of its membership obligations.’

The cricket board in Canada has been fighting with various issues over the last few months. And looking at the same, the ICC eventually decided to suspend its membership. It has been noted that the board will have to go through a normalisation process, which could help them to reinstate their membership with the ICC.

Our Take

A few weeks back, the ICC also started an investigation on the match between Canada and New Zealand in the T20 World Cup. Canada was alleged for match fixing in this game, which the ICC wanted to investigate. As the investigation went on, the Canadian board was also suffering with various other issues. These included severe governance failures, a lack of financial oversight, along with a leaked recording where the head coach was pressured by the board members to change the squad.
