Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is set to join Inter Milan next year. The Italian is set to return to his homeland after falling out of favour within the United ranks and the arrival of Aaron wan Bissaka has made it evident that Darmian is surplus in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

According to Rai Sport, Matteo Darmian is about to follow in former United striker Romelu Lukaku’s footsteps, and join him at the San Siro. Manchester United have tried to offload Darmian in the past as well but have not been able to do so. The 29-year-old Italian defender has made only 60 Premier League appearances for his club and has struggled to get into the first team.

The fullback is about to enter his fifth season with the club, even though he has been pushing for an exit. The inability of the Red Devils to sell Darmian will eventually see him leave for free, at the end of the current campaign.  The Italian joined the Theatre of Dreams from Torino in 2015, and it’s looking very likley that he will return to Italy next summer.

As of now, the 29 year old’s Manchester United future looks very bleak, with the possibility that Darmian will be benched for the rest of the season. Inter were the only side to have expressed their interests in regards to a move, although Juventus were interested last summer.
