After a dreadful start to the Serie A campaign, former AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has claimed that the Rossoneri will only do well if he takes over. The San Siro giants have struggled this season and have already sacked Marco Giampaolo replacing him with former Inter boss Stefano Pioli.

Despite a summer of heavy spending with the likes of Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez, Ismael Bennacer, Rade Krunic, Ante Rebic and Leo Duarte joining the club, AC Milan have struggled to perform. The Rossoneri sit 13 in the league table after 7 games and have managed to win only three games losing the other four. That includes losses to Fiorentina, Inter Milan, and even Udinese, which eventually proved to be Marco Giampaolo’s downfall.

But former president Silvio Berlusconi went on to admit that the San Siro giants will only succeed again once he takes over and truly start challenging for trophies once again. The 83-year-old was in charge during Milan’s most successful era since the turn of the century, with the club winning two Scudetti, two Champions League trophies and one Italian cup among many others during his 32-year tenure.

"These are phrases someone should only say if he walks into the toilet and closes the door first. As for how we get Milan back to being the great Milan of the past, that is simple, yet at the same time difficult to make happen: give the club back to Silvio Berlusconi," said Berlusconi to TeleLombardia.

Both Inter and AC have unveiled two designs for a new stadium to replace the iconic Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, commonly known as the San Siro, with construction set to start in 2022. The Rossoneri have been playing at the San Siro since 1926 with Inter Milan moving in 20 years later. But Berlusconi went on to admits that he hopes the iconic Italian stadium is not demolished and further added that it should be given to Monza, a Serie C club he owns.

"These are lovely projects, I am sure it'll be a modern and beautiful arena. We are fond of San Siro because we won everything there, every spectator gets a good view and I hope that a solution is found to prevent the old stadium being knocked down. Otherwise, I'd propose the city give it to Monza,” concluded the Italian.
