Anup Kumar to lead India in Kabaddi World Cup

Two-time Asian Games Gold medallist Anup Kumar has been selected to lead the Indian team in the Kabaddi World cup which starts from October 7. Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev has unveiled the team jersey in an event at Mumbai.

On Tuesday, a 14-member-squad has been announced for the upcoming Kabaddi World Cup in India, by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) at an event in Mumbai. Anup Kumar will lead the side into the tournament which will be held at the TransStadia, in Ahmedabad, between October 7-22.

Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev unveiled the team jersey at the event. Speaking about the tournament, India’s coach Balwan Singh said, “Our aim is to have a balanced team composition for the upcoming World Cup. We are expecting the tournament to be more competitive than ever this year. It will be the biggest challenge that the Indian team has faced in recent times.”

Anup Kumar has expressed his happiness at being selected as the team's captain.

He said, “I am extremely honored to lead the country for the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. It’s every sportsperson’s dream to represent their country at a global stage. I’m proud of my team and we will all work towards bringing honour to India,” reported The Asian News Service.

12 teams will participate in this prestigious tournament being conducted in India - US, England, Australia, Iran, Poland, Thailand, Bangladesh, South Korea, Japan, Argentina, Kenya and hosts India.
