Well as Manchester City celebrates on the field, it's time for me to say goodbye and goodnight but to echo the tweet below, it was a wonderful game to watch. Even better to cover especially because you never knew exactly what might happen. It just had that feeling to it but in the end, Villa were unlucky not to walk away with more than what they did.

But c'est la vie, so this is goodbye, goodnight and until next time!!!

The design of this final was not predicted before kick off - and certainly not with the scoreline as it was after 30 minutes. Enormous effort from Aston Villa to surprise everyone, including Manchester City and make it an edgy, close finish. A really enjoyable game to cover.

The trophy lift is moments away. David Silva and Fernandinho to share lifting that trophy because it does look rather heavy. Never mind, because Claudio Bravo has held it and done it rather comfortably.

David Silva leads Manchester City up to collect the medal that everyone wants and the trophy everyone hoped they might win but this might be the last time he ever gets one. Pep Guardiola is still on the field speaking to a few players and coaching staff, with him shaking hands and congratulating every Villa player on a job well done. 

Sergio Aguero tells Sky Sports: "The goal, for me, it's important when the team is winning, so I am so happy for the goal but I am happy because we are winning the cup.

On his late injury: "I'm OK, just a kick on my knee, I'm fine."

Aston Villa trudges up to get their runners-up medal as Laura Woods interviews Phil Foden and the young midfielder tells us that he knew he'd start this game day before yesterday. He also adds that he's not surprised he's playing more football with the quality that Manchester City have and he looking forward to doing his best going forward.

FULL-TIME AND MANCHESTER CITY HAVE WON THE CARABAO CUP!! 

That was a fun second half and Jack Grealish looks wrecked. Devastated Aston Villa look and they are just as much because this game should have been level after that second half performance. A wonderful game in the end but City walk away as three time champions.

Doesn't look like it and to make matters worse, Jack Grealish looks injured but it's moments away from full-time.

The Stadium is roaring away because Villa still have the ball and they're doing things with it. Crosses are flying and they're looking for that hail mary. Will they get it?

Three minutes have flown away like it's nothing but Villa have a free-kick and a corner to boot. Nyland is in the Manchester City box but it's a corner and absolutely nothing comes of it. Jack Grealish gets the ball and for some reason he opts not to shoot.

Tyrone Mings body-checks Kevin De Bruyne and is awarded a yellow card for his efforts. Not bad but City have the ball and they're masters of time-wasting but they fire it wide and Jesus lets Villa get the ball back.

FIVE MINUTES OF ADDED TIME and we still have a game on our hands. This should be a fun end to Wembley days. Give. Us. The. Drama. We. Crave. In. A. Cup. Final.

It doesn't look like we'll get too much time added on but Villa don't care. They're playing with a front-five and defending has become second notion as Sterling charges down Nyland. He fires in a cross and NYLAND MAKES A GREAT SAVE!! BERNARDO SILVA MEETS THE CROSS AND THE VILLA GOALIE IS THERE TO STOP THE BALL!!

Both John Terry and Dean Smith are on the sidelines shouting instructions but so far, Villa have struggled to make a difference. Changes though on the field as Villa, it looks like, have gone to a five in the front. It could be six. Or even seven, as Villa win a corner.

Short corner, and Manchester City have loved those tonight. But sick of them doing nothing but passing, Kyle Walker tries a 30 yard screamer and gets nothing from it. City do get a corner however, and City makes their final change of the night. Gabriel Jesus the man replacing Sergio Aguero.

Ten minutes left in this game and Villa have something to fight for. They aren't doing it right now and they really need to, or else it's all for nothing. And as I type this, Bernardo Silva cuts in again, cuts inside, tries to find the right pass but earns a corner.

Change for Villa and Mbwana Samatta is the man being replaced. He looked good against City but with the Lions looking for more energy and goals, on walks Keinan Davis. 22-year-old and he has some part to play in this game.

Nyland with a terrible mistake but somehow he's nutmegged Sterling with his mis-grabbed pass and survives the error. Heart in mouth stuff by the Aston Villa man and his defenders looked a little shocked by the error.

Manchester City are dominating this ball, and the game but yet you feel that Villa need just that one chance to find themselves back in it. That does force Pep Guardiola into a change and off walks David Silva for what might be his last appearance in a City shirt in a cup final. Bernardo Silva is his replacement and the Portuguese midfielder has a bone to pick with football right now.

FIESTY FIESTY FIESTYNESS!! Marvelous produces a marvellous tackle on Sergio Aguero with a double footer and he doesn't leave the field but it is a double footer. Nakamba gets the ball as well but a double footer is a double footer and thus gives Marvelous a yellow card. Aguero is back and walking about with an unhappy look on his face.

Double change as mentioned and it's Elmohamady and El Ghazi the men replaced with the aforementioned change walking on. It's Trezeguet and Hourihane for the lazy ones which will see good ol Jack Grealish play a lot further up the field but on the left hand side.

Elmohamady has earned himself a yellow card and promptly delivers a F**k off to the ref which prompts Dean Smith to make the change that needed to be made. Still not made but it does look like a double change with Trezeguet and Conor Hourihane getting ready on the sidelines.

Free-kick for Villa and as the crowd cheers, you know it's Grealish firing it inside the box. He stands up, smiles to the fans and then fires in the worst possible pass. It's terrible, not even the ball boy managed to get to it in time and City move on.

Probing and prodding are Manchester City but Aston Villa are making their presence known by adding more than a touch of bite to it. A few fiesty tackles, fouls and even words being exchanged out on that field as Pep Guardiola ponders what he might do to stop a capitulation.

Kevin De Bruyne makes a couple of mistakes and then, does that. By that, for those reading this, is play a wonderful cross into the box that would have been 3-1 to City if not for Tyrone Mings and his ability to be in the right place at the right time. Throw and City move the ball again.

There is an edge to the game, to be fair. Real credit to Villa given it looked like it was a foregone conclusion in the 10 minutes after Rodri's goal. And illustrated by the fact Guardiola feels the need to bring on the best midfielder in the world.

That's the end of Ilkay Gundogan's game and he lasts only 57 minutes. Kevin De Bruyne is the man replacing him and the entire stadium is in love with that move. The Belgian's name rings around Wembley and who can blame them? He was City's Galactico at the Bernabeu and Villa need to mark him rather well or suffer their fate.

Not good from Guilbert there as he smashes the ball into Sterling's chest and the English superstar is not happy at all. Who would be, as both men collide into each other but Sterling flies into the full-back rather than the other way around. Oh, this is fun, this is really really fun to watch now.

Eh from both sides, with them testing each other out for some reason. Villa does it by firing crosses from good positions high and wide of their only target inside the box. City does it by firing volleys just wide and crosses right to their man, who then heads it wide. This does look like a game with goals but goals are not what we've gotten so far in the second half.

If David Silva is brilliant then Phill Foden is his heir to all the brilliance. The Englishman has been allowed to operate in massive pockets of space and by god is he making Villa pay for that. A couple of shots here and there, a few line cutting passes and then that assist for Sergio, who finished it in Sergio style. This is Foden's game and we're just living it.

Bright start from City and almost instantly, Sterling is speeding down that right-wing but Guilbert finds himself on the floor and the ref pulls things back. Soft foul there and the Aston Villa man made the most of things and Sterling does look rather bemused with the foul being given.

PEEEEEEEEEEP!! WE'RE BACK FOR THE SECOND HALF AT WEMBLEY!!

It's a magnificent looking field at England's best stadium and it's a field deserving of the game we've gotten so far. Neither side with a change for this second half.

A fifteen minute breather and yet, we're still breathless. That was some end to the first half and Villa walked in with their hope renewed. Mbwana Samatta with the hope inducing goal as the teams walk out for the second half.

HALF-TIME AND MANCHESTER CITY LEAD!!

Nothing else happens in the one minute of added time and Manchester City walk into the break with a one goal lead to their name. John Stones will possibly walk into the worst half-time talk of his career but I suppose, things could be worse.

One minute of added time and goodness me, this has been fun. One sided for large parts of it and it still looks like it might end City's way, but this has been fun. A nice day out for the family, good football on show and the crowd has been equally rather brilliant.

Trying to find the words to describe that John Stones mistake. All I can think of is that Phil Jones would have been mortified by it

John Stones may be getting a lot of hate, but the man has only played four out of the last 19 games. I mean, Pep Guardiola doesn't trust him so much, he'd rather make a defensive midfielder relearn how to play football in a brand new position, rather than make Stones play football. One way traffic and it's been that way for a while. Villa doing their bit to make it 1% competitive, but this game is over. Hope is there but at the moment, we're all living in a glass half empty world.

City passes the ball around and David Silva is looking wonderful. He looked wonderful ten years ago when he first signed for Manchester City and now, ten years later, and he still looks wonderful. Villa hasn't been able to handle him or that young Phil Foden as Prince William looks on with his side getting dominated.

Men in black, Manchester City, are running this game and the Villa fans in the stands (they're right behind the Villa goal) have had to deal with that. Not happy tidings for them but atleast, they're watching some football right now. It's better than absolute nothing as the stats flash across the screen and tell us that City have had 9 shots, Villa 2 and this is Kyle Walker's best run in the team since September.

Poor Aston Villa. I mean, they're still out there fighting their fight but this game should really be only be 1-0 down and yet even though the corner was given, they should have moved on. It should be one nil but it's 2-0 because of the fact that they lost concentration and never got back in the game.

It was a cleverly worked goal from #MCFC to puncture a bright start from #AVFC. Sterling attracted markers and supplied Rodri. He lofted a pass to Foden, who headed for Aguero to convert. Advantage doubled with Rodri heading in Gundogan's corner, which shouldn't have been given.

Corner for Manchester City and Aston Villa are fuming. They believe it came off a City man and replays show that it does come off a City man. Still a corner and up comes everyone leaving Villa with a lot to defend about.

CHANCE FOR CITY!! Phil Foden with the dream of a first touch, an even better second and the third is fired across goal and beats Nyland. Does get a corner for his efforts but it, like most, comes to absolutely nothing. City somehow get the ball back and there they are again, but Villa are looking a little better now.

But Villa look rather threatening so far so saying that they've been mere spectators is rather harsh on the Lions. They've managed to test Bravo a couple of times and City's backline can be got at.

All City in the last four odd minutes with the occasional move from Villa as the Cityzens force their jargon and propaganda into Villa's mouth. Not working so far despite a couple of looping headers past Nyland's goal but somehow, the Lions need to do more. The question is how, and when do they react?

And there it is. Not the goal but the expected chant, you know, the very chant that has forced City to rethink their entire past and future, then spend boatloads of money and hide it before eventually getting discovered by UEFA, banned and yet they maintain that they've made no mistake. 

That's the "Champions of Europe, you'll never be that." Because Villa, for you younger fans out in the crowd were the European Cup winners in 1981-82.

Manchester City get their own corner and do absolutely nothing with it. Villa fans are clearly having fun however, as they start up yet another chant in the opening minutes of this clash. That's three or four already I think and City's section are yet to be heard from. Does anyone see them?

Anwar El Ghazi with the first big chance of the game and the winger had Villa fans up in the air for a moment, but they watched as the shot flew above Claudio Bravo and onto the roof. Bright bright start for the underdogs here.

And almost immediately, Aston Villa nearly causes problems for Manchester City's backline of John Stones and Fernandinho. The two should have an interesting game sitting at the back.

More to the point, if ol Jim Proudfoot's tweet is right then David Silva starts (he's been named captain), Sergio Aguero starts, Kyle Walker and Zinchenko start for Manchester City.

On the other side, I see Nyland, Jack Grealish, El Ghazi, what I think is Trezeguet.
