GAMEWEEK 28

And just like that, that’s all from me today. Thanks for following tonight. It's been an education but Norwich City vs Leicester is just the start. We havev a lot more football coming around the corner and it should be beyond fun. A lot of goals, action, drama and entertaining but first we sleep.

Till then, goodbye, goodnight and until next time.

29 Feb, 03:57

MANAGER TALK: DANIEL FARKE

Daniel Farke says: "This [Leicester City] is a top-class side, top-class coach, top-class players. I'm pretty proud today. We want to hold our standards high.

"We spoke about how we need to improve in order to create more chances in the first half. Even before the goal, we had several good chances. In general I was pleased with the whole 90 minutes. There were periods I would prefer to be better in possession, but many compliments to the lads."

On Jamal Lewis: "Well deserved because it was a tough spell for Jamal with a long-term injury. To come into the team and then get his first Premier League goal, it's well deserved. Max [Aarons] was fantastic in the situation with a great assist. Both full-backs were today on a really great level.

"A win is always good for the mood, good for the confidence, good for the table of course. For me it was important to show a reaction after the last game.

"We have to keep going. I am happy and delighted today. When you work with unity, with togetherness, with great fighting spirit, with a good tactical approach... then you have a chance wherever you go. We won today and I think it was deserved."

29 Feb, 03:56

MANAGER TALK: BRENDAN RODGERS

Brendan Rodgers says: "We think it's very, very harsh, I'm not sure exactly what the ruling is, but obviously it hits their player's arms first. We're bitterly disappointed not to get it, because we were the better team in the game.

"I've watched a lot of games this week in the Champions League and Europa League and they seem to get to the decisions much quicker than they do in the Premier League.

"We need to be better. We haven't scored since the Chelsea game. We've got to find that quality again in the final third. We had 19 attempts on goal but only four on target. We have to look to have that wee bit more when we arrive into the final third. We'll get that back, it's just a little period where that's disappointing. We were the bettrer team."

29 Feb, 03:48

LEICESTER NEED A HERO!!

29 Feb, 03:36

FEAR THE MAN!

29 Feb, 03:36

PLAYER TALK: JAMAL LEWIS

Jamal Lewis says:  "It was a great finish. Happy to get my first Premier League goal, it is always a great achievement but I am just happy to get three points. It was a great cross by Max. I saw it come over to me, decided to chest it, cut across it and knew I had to hit that spot in the goal

"When the season started we knew it would be a battle from the beginning but with the squad and togetherness we always thought we could push through and survive in this league."

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY (FT)

GAME, SET AND MATCH, NORWICH CITY!! Now there's something that hasn't been said too much this season. The great escape they called it and that sensational win might see the Canaries pull off the greatest relegation survival since absolutely nobody mangaed. It takes them to 21 points and they're within four of Aston Villa and the light outside the drop zone. Foxes in trouble however, because it's one win in seven games. Top four looking a little shaky and Rodgers is in trouble.

29 Feb, 03:22

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

We're done with extra time. The next blow of the whistle will see the stadium erupt and it does as much.

29 Feb, 03:20

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

Three minutes have flown away and Carrow Road is buzzing. They're praying, dancing and cheering away to glory hoping that it works for their side tonight. It has and they're minutes away from walking away with their fifth win of the season.

29 Feb, 03:18

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

We're into extra time and this game has just been handed five minutes of added time which does add to Norwich's problems. They've been bad defensively this season but tonight's mixture of ladybugs and bat wings in the magic potion has worked. Leicester look like a tamed Fox over the field and that is largely down to Daniel Farke.

29 Feb, 03:17

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

Norwich have made a change with Stiepermann on the field with Duda the man he replaces but the German will have to wait for a while before he gets the ball. Nope I'm wrong, the Canaries break and they do it in style, the counter-attack comes to an end with a shot on goal. Schmeichel saves and off run Leicester.

29 Feb, 03:13

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

29 Feb, 03:12

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

Good football from the Foxes but like Norwich, it's going nowhere. However, 19 shots for the Foxes as compared to the 9 for Norwich says everything. Both sides have four a piece on target with the Canaries for once, beating the Foxes out in that margin.

29 Feb, 03:10

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

29 Feb, 03:10

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

29 Feb, 03:09

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

The game did go a little quiet there but it's lit up now. Norwich are moving forward with intent, the crowd is cheering them on and it's been fun. Leicester at arm's length, struggling to create and this might be a fun end to this game.

29 Feb, 03:08

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

29 Feb, 03:08

NORWICH CITY 1-0 LEICESTER CITY

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG THAT WAS UNEXPECTED. THAT HAS COME OUT OF NOWHERE!!

Jamal Lewis scores from a crazy angle to give the Canaries hope. What a strike! It's a bolt of lightning and Leicester in problems.

29 Feb, 02:55

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

29 Feb, 02:54

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

29 Feb, 02:53

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

CHANCE FOR NORWICH!! Emi Buendia is off and running which sees Carrow Road erupt. They cheer on their wonderful Argentine and he reaches the final third and lay it off for Duda. The first touch is good looking and the second sees him thunder in a shot and Schmeichel is there to make a good looking save.

29 Feb, 02:51

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Dennis Praet is late on Max Aarons and somehow only wins himself a yellow card with the Leicester midfielder is the second player to pick up a booking in this game. Ondrej Duda bends the free kick in from midway inside the Leicester half but Hamza Choudhury heads away and off go the Foxes.

29 Feb, 02:50

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Not too much to write home about right now with both sides settling into something. High time we get some goals but I guess, that's what happens when the leading goalscorer is dropped. No matter the fact that he's injured or out of form.

29 Feb, 02:42

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

29 Feb, 02:42

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

29 Feb, 02:41

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Issues on the field and this game has developed rather nicely over the last five odd minutes or so especially for Hamza Choudhury. This could see Ndidi make his return but the Nigerian has only just returned from injury and rushing him back, makes no sense.

29 Feb, 02:39

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

VAR disallows it and naturally, the stadium erupts in a "F**K VAR" Chant. It's become rather catchy and a classic as the years pass but that's until you look at your watch and realize that it's been less than four months since the chant was born. Six or so since the season started.

29 Feb, 02:37

NORWICH CITY 0-1 LEICESTER CITY

GOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!! GOAL DISALLOWED.

KELECHI IHEANACHO WITH A FABULOUS STRIKE!! He's curled that one past Tim Krul in goal but VAR is checking for a possible hand ball. Replays tell us that there was a hand involved but it did look like Ben Godfrey's hand knocked the ball onto Iheanacho's. DOESN'T MATTER, IT'S DISALLOWED.

29 Feb, 02:36

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Boring start to this half so far. We've gotten a couple of corners and so but no real action from either side but here's Leicester charging forward.

29 Feb, 02:32

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! WE'RE OFF FOR THE SECOND HALF!!

And as it stands, it looks bleak for Norwich. Yes, they walk in level. Yes, they have a decent starting eleven out. But Leicester have looked above average, they've looked like they might score and they have a much better bench than the Canaries have.

29 Feb, 02:28

NO VARDY, SALAH AND MANE TO THE RESCUE?

29 Feb, 02:21

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY (HT)

29 Feb, 02:20

29 Feb, 02:19

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY (HT)

29 Feb, 02:19

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY (HT)

29 Feb, 02:18

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY (HT)

PEEEEEEEEEP!! HALF-TIME AND THIS IS SOMETHING!!

Not interesting but something because both sides have had their chances but the Foxes should realistically be ahead. They're not and that might be a slight problem..

29 Feb, 02:17

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Yet again, Norwich charge forward and the Canaries have a corner with one minute of added time. They make nothing of it with the Foxes doing well to handle the pressure, Both sides have been a threat but the Foxes have done more with the ball and look better without it.

29 Feb, 02:14

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Leicester counter-attack, Norwich throw more men on the park to help them change the world's openion of they are.

29 Feb, 02:09

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Jamal Lewis with a howler but Leicester cannot make him pay for it as Iheanacho fires his shot after a turn high and powerfully into the stands. The Foxes have been peppering Tim Krul and already have eight or nine to their name. Just the two on target as compared to Norwich? one.

29 Feb, 02:07

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Ten minutes until half-time and this game has been decent. Not great, not magnificent but decent and as I type this Ayoze Perez goes on a slaloming run. He beats one, two and then three but his shot is saved calmly by Tim Krul. Norwich win the ball back and then promptly lose it.

29 Feb, 02:05

FOR THOSE WONDERING WHERE JAMIE VARDY IS

29 Feb, 02:03

THAT'S MAGNIFICENT!!

29 Feb, 02:01

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

We're off again and Norwich are back on the ball. It's been a constant exchange between both sides but the Foxes do look like the better side going forward. Defensively, they haven't been threatened enough to say something about that but that in itself says everything.

29 Feb, 01:58

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Break in the game as Max Aarons and Ben Chilwell go down after a collision. Doesn't look serious for either man but the physios are on the field and the players take a breather. Not a classic game so far and hopefully that changes.

29 Feb, 01:57

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Still, Leicester and Barnes is causing problems after switching wings. His pass finds Perez, through two defender, and after wiggling about a bit the Spaniard wins a corner. A massive cheer goes up as Maddison walks over to take it and he takes it with a big smile. Corner is a smart one, and Maddison fires the cross back in but Krul is there.

29 Feb, 01:55

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Leicester are hitting a groove now and goodness me was that close!! Dennis Praet with the knock-on which hits the post but the move was flowing and something that Norwich have tried the opening 25 minutes to create. No luck there though and the game is still goalless.

29 Feb, 01:52

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

CHANCE FOR NORWICH!! The move is wonderful but like so many, it lacks the finish but that is partly thanks to Soyuncu's quick thinking and the block. Pukki looks unhappy with his effort and we get a corner, that is good for nothing. Again Norwich following their usual patterns, easy on the eye but no real end product.

29 Feb, 01:49

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Oh Harvey Barnes is rather wonderful, isn't he? Hard-worker, a pure traditional winger and he loves hugging that touchline on the far left. He also loves cutting inside and does just that, before feeding Dennis Praet and the Belgian's shot is on target. Nothing to write how about.

29 Feb, 01:47

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Norwich with the ball and they're moving it about rather nicely. That is as they do but no intent from the hosts and that changes in an instant, as Ondrej Duda plays Cantwell through. The Durham Deco wins a corner and it's good for nothing. Norwich gets the ball back at the half way line and continue moving it well.

29 Feb, 01:44

STUNNING

29 Feb, 01:42

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Todd Cantwell goes on a canter across the field and is cynically taken out by Ricardo Pereira after Jonny Evans nicks the ball off the youngster. Free-kick to Norwich and up steps Emi Buendia, and the man can hit these free-kicks from about 25 yards or so. He hits the wall..

29 Feb, 01:39

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

CHANCE NORWICH!! And Ben Godfrey makes sure it comes to nothing with a powerless header on target. It's a shot on target but Duda looks a little upset that more was not made from his cross. Far from a powerful one but there was enough to do a little more.

29 Feb, 01:38

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

“It’s difficult - we’re realistic,” admits Daniel Farke. “But you have a chance in every game.”

29 Feb, 01:37

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

Leicester have slowly found themselves in the game and their plan does seem to be to let ol Kelechi Iheanacho run in behind. It's working to a certain extent but former Norwich man James Maddison will need to do more and create more even against this terrible Norwich backline. He does have Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes in great form, so that helps.

29 Feb, 01:32

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

A bright start from Norwich but so far no shots or goals. More news as we find out exactly what's happening.

29 Feb, 01:31

NORWICH CITY 0-0 LEICESTER CITY

PEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!! AND WE'RE OFF AT CARROW ROAD!!

Everything about Norwich makes you wanna praise them. Daniel Farke's consistent insistence to play his style of football, their use of the younger players, the fact they've barely spent a permanent pound, and even their injury issues. But, points have been lacking.

29 Feb, 01:28

THE LINEUPS ONCE AGAIN

29 Feb, 01:28

NORWICH BAD STATS

  • The Canaries have lost three of their past four league games and have won just once in the league since November.
  • However, they have lost just one of their last four league matches at Carrow Road (W1, D2).
  • No Premier League side has earned fewer home points than Norwich's 12.
  • Teemu Pukki is the only Norwich man to score since New Year's Day.

29 Feb, 01:26

TO NORWICH, WHO NEED SOME MOTIVATION.

29 Feb, 12:44

NORWICH CITY VS LEICESTER CITY

LINEUPS ARE OUT AND THE RUMOURS ARE TRUE, LUKAS RUPP IS DROPPED!!

The Germann was bang average against Wolves last weekend and has faced his consequences with him the only Norwich City change for the night. He's replaced by the wonderful and on-his-rare-day brilliant that is Emi Buendia.

But the real change, is Jamie Vardy and the rumours are true, Vardy is out. The striker hasn't made the squad with a calf injury and the Foxes go back to a back four. That does see Harvey Barnes start, Ayoze Perez and Hamza Choudhury join him. Both Youri Tielemans and Wilfred Ndidi grace the bench.

YOUR WEEKEND

PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE

28 Feb, 06:16

OVERTURE

Welcome, welcome, welcome. It’s been merely five days since the last Premier league game so it does mean that we haven’t missed too much football. That’s thanks to the Champions League and Europa League but either way, welcome back to Sportscafe’s Premier League blog.

The Premier League is off and running on all cylinders but with 10 games left in the season, things are becoming very very interesting. The relegation battle is hot and on absolute fire with just ten points separating 12th place Southampton and the drop zone. But the Saints play West Ham and the Hammers are in the drop zone and a point away from safety.

Above them are Aston Villa but the Villians are one of four sides including Sheffield United, Arsenal and Manchester City who do not play this weekend. Watford do and with them level with West Ham, things might get better for them and yet, unfortunately, they happen to face Liverpool. Not good news for them but it is good news for rock bottom Norwich and yet then happen to play third place Leicester City.

The Foxes are looking to get a bad run out of their system and Norwich are struggling to look like a Premier League side. The same can be said about Bournemouth but yet again, the Cherries play Chelsea. A Chelsea looking to forget about their mid-week troubles and take it out against a side that has managed just two wins in their last five games.

It does bode well for Brighton, Everton and Burnley as they play Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Newcastle United respectively. Also, it means lucky us because we get not one but two marquee games because Tottenham face Wolves. The other happens to be Everton’s battle with Manchester United. Need we say more?

Yet if English football isn’t for you, then fear not you philistine because there are four other leagues in action. In Italy, Juventus and Inter Milan go head to head in a title challenge. In France, Toulouse and Stade Rennais battle each other. In Spain, it’s the El Clasico. I mean do we really need to say anything else?

And it should be rather fun but not fun enough to miss RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen lock heads in what should be the most exciting game of the weekend. El Clasico, who?
