Indian paralympic athletes win two silvers at World Championship

Devendra Jhajharia and Amit Kumar Saroha of India clinched two silver medals in the 2015 Paralympic World Championship underway at Doha. While Devendra came runner-up in the men's javelin throw F46 event on Tuesday, Amit reached the podium in the men's club throw F51 event on Thursday.

30-year-old Amit Kumar Saroha, an Arjuna award winner and gold medalist in the 2014 Para Asian Games, finished second behind Serbian Zeljko Dimitrijevic with a throw of 25.44m. Amit improved his personal best, which was also the Asian record, but could not overtake the Serbian's throw of 26.29m.

Earlier on Tuesday, 35-year-old Devendra Jhajharia won silver in the men's javelin throw F46 event to provide India with their first medal at the World Championships. His throw of 59.06m, his personal best, was second only to China's Guo Chunliang, who managed a throw of 61.89m.

Yesterday, Jyoti Karam came close to winning a bronze medal in the women's discus throw F55 event as she finished fourth with a personal best throw of 19.51m.

Three more Indian para-athletes take to the field tomorrow. Prasanna Kumar and Ranbir Narender will participate in the men's javelin throw F44 event (18:34 IST), while 39-year-old veteran Thirumalai Kumar Subbaiah will compete in the men's discus throw F57 event (23 IST).
