Dhoni, Kohli and Sania Mirza in ESPN’s World Fame 100 rankings
Indian cricketers M S Dhoni, Virat Kohli and tennis ace Sania Mirza have bee named in the top 100 of the global sports fame list put together by ESPN. In a list dominated by footballers and basketball players, Kohli is at No.8, while Dhoni and Sania Mirza are at No.13 and No.41 respectively.
The rankings were based on a formula developed by ESPN’s director of sports analytics, Ben Alamar, and it took into consideration the combined salary and endorsements along with social media following and google search popularity.
Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo finished at the top of the rankings with him being the world’s top-earning footballer. Basketball star LeBron James separated Ronaldo from FC Barcelona footballers Lionel Messi and Neymar, while tennis legend Roger Federer completed the top five.
Indian Test captain Virat Kohli came in at No.8 in the rankings beating the likes of James Rodriguez, Rafael Nadal, Kobe Bryant, and Gareth Bale. Kohli was named the third most marketable player in the world recently by ‘SportsPro’ magazine beating the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Novak Djokovic.
Indian limited overs team captain M S Dhoni came at No.13 in the rankings, while Tennis ace Sania Mirza finished at No.41 in the list. Kohli and Dhoni are the only cricketers in the top 100.
