For a week that was a proper roller-coaster of emotions, this edition of ‘The Sportsweek that was’ brings to you the highs and lows from various sports to make sure you finish your week just like you started it. From the highs of the Indian Cricket team to the sad news of the demise of a legendary footballer in Johan Cruyff, with the usual dose of International moments, we wrap it all up to serve you a brilliant dish to start your Sunday with.

Indian Moment of the week

MS Dhoni channelled his inner Usain Bolt as he won a 40-meter dash to win India a nailbiting match against Bangladesh on the last ball. (More on Usain Bolt later on)

Now, being a sports fan is not child’s play and for those who sat through this last ball thriller, will tell you how theycan’t thank their stars enough to still have their hearts intact. From needing just 2 runs off the last 3 balls, to losing by 1 run, Bangladesh batsmen threw away the match more carelessly than Indians throw away their chocolate wrappers on the street.

It was an insane climax to one of the best World T20 matches ever, and one which could easily turn the fate of this World Cup altogether.

Sad Moment of the week

The Footballing world lost one of the greatest players to grace the game as legend Johan Cryuff passed away at the age of 68, losing his battle against cancer. A true phenomenon in every sense, the mesmerising Dutchman was a pioneer who revolutionized the game of football in a the most philosophical and beautiful way possible. The world will forever remain indebted to his contribution and he will forever be celebrated and honoured for being the great thinker he was.

Inspirational Moment of the week

Trivia – A person who competes in a walking race is called a race walker.

Not that the trivia is too important but what is very important is to know that India’s Gurmeet Singh scripted history, becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the Asian 20km Race Walk Championship. It may not be as highlighted as much as the other sports, but the 30-year old made the nation proud with his heroics and has certainly staked his claim to board a flight to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Awkward Moment of the week

What do you do when someone tries to antagonize and provoke you in a press conference?

A. Smile and answer the question even though you want to throw a glass bottle at that person.

B. Lose your cool, roar angrily in response and fall into the trap.

C. Storm out of the room.

These are the ordinary options obviously but MS Dhoni is no ordinary man. When faced with such a situation, following the India-Bangladesh match, Mahi decided to hit the helicopter shot on the microphone, and took the reporter to the cleaners. MS Dhoni put the delusional media guy in his place and dealt him in a way, only Mahi can. He calmly stated hardcore facts, and with pure logic once again proved why Dhoni is arguably the best guy to deal with annoying journalists putting ahead irrational questions, during a press conference.

MS Dhoni absolutely rips apart a journalist for asking a very stupid question and rightly so. Brilliant by Mahi! #WT20

International Moment of the week

*The year was 2009, the place was some random city in an even more random country. Add cool names to the following conversation if needed*

“Dude, something bad happened today. I was trying to sneeze but I just could not get it out and...”

“and...? Then what happened bro?”

“I missed the entire World-record 100-meter sprint of Usain Bolt.”

“Dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.”

“I know, dudeeeeeeeeee.”

Absolutely, a true story! It was on the internet, so it must be true. Or maybe not, just made that up. But it could have happened, you know.

Fast forward seven years, and the fastest man on the planet, Usain Bolt, has decided to hang up his boots after the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Jamaican thunderbolt holds multiple world records for his epic sprints and would hope to outdo himself in his last major event at the Rio Olympics. The world is going to miss his trademark celebration and we hope that he gets one last hurrah before he vanishes off the track, like so many times before, but forever this time.
