Ahead of the series against South Africa, Umran Malik has revealed that it was his dream to play for country and is very excited to make a debut in the T20I series. Malik also stated that head coach Rahul Dravid advised him to stick to his strategies during the interaction between both of them.
IPL 2022 has been concluded but some of the youngsters made their mark in the tournament. Umran Malik was one of the young guns who put on a superb show in the tournament. The pace was his biggest strength and Malik bamboozled best of the batters with his lightning speed. Courtesy of his performance in the IPL, he got the maiden call-up to the national team for the five-match T20I series against South Africa.
Malik recently joined the practice session along with the Indian team and shared that the environment amongst the team is very healthy and positive.
“Thanks to god, I got an India call-up as it was my dream to play for the country,” Malik said in a video, uploaded by BCCI.
“I was very excited as I joined Team India and practised with everyone. I was positive that I would be able to bowl well, I was confident. The team environment is healthy as everyone is like brothers after we played together in the IPL.”
Malik scalped 22 wickets from 14 matches in IPL 2022 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was retained by the franchise ahead of the auction and played a role of middle overs enforcer for them. The pacer stated that his interaction with head coach Rahul Dravid and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey were very helpful.
“I was delighted to interact with a legend as big as Rahul Sir. He advised me to stick to my strategies. Paras Sir was also guiding me on how to bowl and it gave me a lot of confidence because if a coach talks to you, it’s for your improvement,” he explained.
