India's mixed recurve pair of Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das were forced to settle for a silver at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 on Sunday after losing the final to the top-seeded Korean pair. The Indian women’s recurve team also suffered a heartbreak after losing the bronze medal clash to Italy 1-5.

Indian archers ended their disappointing campaign at the third and final stage of the Archery World Cup with a silver at the Konyaalti Beach Park in Antalya on Sunday. It came from the mixed recurve pair of Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das, who lost 1-5 to Ku Bonchan and Choi Misun. The Indian pair started off with poor shots of 8,6, and 9 to lose the first set 0-2. They tied the second set by improving on their scores, but the Koreans struck two 9s and two 10s in the third set to win it 38-37, and to take the match 5-1.

In the morning session, the women’s recurve team of Deepika, Laxmirani Majhi, and Bombayla Devi Laishram suffered a similar fate in the bronze medal play-off as they lost the match 1-5 to Italy. Atanu Das, who was on the cusp of winning his first Individual World Cup medal, lost 5-6 in a thrilling shoot-off in the bronze medal match after leading 4-0 initially. The 24-year-old started with a flurry of 10s in the first two sets against Kim Woojin of Korea. He was in the driver's seat with a 4-0 lead, but Atanu failed to maintain the rhythm and surrendered the third set before securing a tie in the fourth set. The second-seeded Korean hit three 10s in the crucial fifth set to take the match to a shoot-off. Both the players shot 10s in the shoot-off, but the Korean took the medal with his arrow hitting closer to the centre.

Earlier, Indian women’s compound team had also lost the bronze medal play-off. The men’s recurve team also failed in their pursuit to secure a place in the Rio Olympics after crashing out in the quarter-final of the Final Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which was held on the sidelines of the World Cup.
