World Archery body suspends Archery Association of India with immediate effect
The World Archery governing body has suspended AAI for defying its guidelines by electing two parallel bodies after failing to reach a solution last month. The last event in which national archers will be able to participate under the Indian flag is the World Archery Youth Championships.
On Thursday, the World Archery body suspended the Archery Association of India (AAI) after the Indian body failed to abide by its guidelines as they ended up electing two parallel bodies. This came after the international body had asked the Indian federation to put its house in order by the end of this July.
“World Archery is implementing the decision taken in June by suspending the Archery Association of India.
“If no solution is found by the end of this month, the executive board will decide what can be done to preserve the chances of Indian athletes participating in the Asian Championships and Asian Para Championships,” World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen said.
WA's decision will be effective from Monday onwards which means that the last event in which the national archers can participate under the Indian flag is the World Archery Youth Championships. A court judgement is expected on the dispute in question, due to which the AAI had previously requested the international federation to give it a few more days to sort out their troubles but it was turned down.
