Archery World Championships | Indian men’s recurve team reach final after beating Netherlands

The Indian men’s recurve team has made it to the final of the ongoing Archery World Championships in the Netherlands by beating the hosts. After securing an Olympic quota by entering into the quarter-finals India defeated the Netherlands in the semis to set up a summit clash against China on Sunday.

The Indian men’s recurve archery team comprising of Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and Pravin Jadhav stunned the Dutchmen 5-4 in the semi-final of the World Championships. India came from behind in the semi-final battle and secured a place in the finals for the first time in 14 years. The Indian team will now take on the Chinese archers in the final who defeated Korea 6-2 in another semi-final.

This is the second time ever in the archery history of the country that the men’s recurve team has made it to the final of the World Championships. In the 2005, Rai, Jayanta Talukdar and Gautam Singh had lost against Korea 232-244 in the final then.

“He’s our great motivation now. It’s a great moment for us. Last few years, I was struggling in all the three events -- individual, mixed pair and team events. I was up to the mark but not able to put up any medal-winning show. I tried harder and harder and finally it happened,” Das was quoted as saying by PTI.

“We will give our best show (against China). We are really proud.”

On the other hand, the Indian women’s compound team will take on Turkey in the bronze medal play-off tie at the global archery event.
