Anju Bobby George allegedly threatened by Kerala Sports Minister
Former Indian athlete and Olympian Anju Bobby George on Thursday claimed that Kerala Sports Minister EP Jayarajan threatened her in a meeting with the Kerala Sports Council. The Minister allegedly accused her and the council of being corrupt, she said in a complaint to the Chief Minister.
The World Championships bronze medalist said that Jayarajan accused the council and her of being corrupt by using her travel from Bengaluru to Kerala by air as the reference, the News Minute reported However, Anju Bobby George clarified that the air travel had been sanctioned for her by a Government Order from the Finance Ministry.
Notorious for the Muhammad Ali goof-up on television a few days ago, Jayarajan also accused the Council of being supporters of the opposition party and threatened them of dire consequences since the LDF had come to power.
“When a minister is appointed as the Head of a Department, he should have some minimum knowledge about the working of the department,” she said, reported News Minute.
Further, she also alleged that the minister dismissed all the recent transfer orders issued by the Sports Council. On questioning this, the Minister threatened her again, wrote the News Minute. After her meeting with the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the latter assured Anju Bobby George that suitable action would be taken on the issue
The Kerala Sports Council looks after the functioning of Centralised Sports Hostels, School Sports Hostels , College Sports Hostels , Rural Coaching Centres, Sports Training Centres and Day Boarding Centres.
