Indian shuttlers enter second round of Indonesian Masters

The Indian contingent had a good day at the office in the Indonesian Masters on Wednesday that saw all of them sail into the second round. K Srikanth, H S Prannoy and R M V Gurusaidutt had easy outings, while P V Sindhu won a three-setter to get through here at Malang, Indonesia.

World No.12 P V Sindhu survived a scare in the second game to defeat Gregoria Mariska from the host nation 2-1 in 54 minutes.  Sindhu won the first game 21-16 before Mariska pulled one back to win the second game 21-19. In the third game, Sindhu dominated from the word go, as she wrapped up the game 21-12 to seal the match. She will next play against Wulan Sukoputri from Indonesia.   

Top seed Kidambi Srikanth easily won his match against Wibowo Setyaldi Putra of Indonesia in two fleeting games. The World No. 8 Indian wrapped up the first game 21-6. Wibowo could only double the score of the first game, as the Indian shuttler won the second game 21-12. He is drawn to next play Saputra Angga from Indonesia. 

Third seeded H S Prannoy required only 33 minutes to win his first round match against Panji Ahmad Maulana from Indonesia. The Indian was in complete control of the game, as he finished the match with identical scores of 21-16, 21-16. Prannoy will play against Shi Yuqi from China.

Meanwhile, R M V Gurusaidutt, seeded eighth in the tournament, cruised to victory after making short work of Indonesian Muhammad Khairulloh. The Indian won the first set 21-10. The second set was even shorter as he won the game 21-3.  He will next face off against Kean Loh from Indonesia, tomorrow.
