Defending champion PV Sindhu storms into Macau Open final
World No.12 PV Sindhu entered the final of $120,000 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold on Saturday after beating second seeded Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in a hard-fought match. The two time defending champion won the match 21-8, 15-21, 21-16 in one hour and three minutes and will now look to clinch her third Macau Open title in the final tomorrow.
After earning a difficult win in the quarter-final against Chen Yufei, PV Sindhu produced yet another impressive victory to enter the final of Macau Open. Sindhu started on the front foot as she overturned a slim 0-2 deficit to win the next five points to go 5-2. The dominance continued as the Indian extended her lead to eight points at the break.
The Japanese struggled throughout the first game as Sindhu extended her run of points to 13 to lead 17-3. The 20-year old Indian finished the first game in a commanding fashion as she won 21-8.
The second seeded Yamaguchi produced some terrific attacking play in the second game to cause the Indian a lot of problems. But, Sindhu matched her higher ranked opponent smash by smash to keep her lead of 11-8 going into the break. With Sindhu making casual errors after the break, Yamaguchi made a brilliant comeback into the match to take the lead. Both players engaged in a series of long rallies in the second game to the spectators' delight. Yamaguchi extended her lead and won the game 21-15 after a series of smashes by the Indian went astray.
With the match level at one game each, Sindhu once again swung into action in the third game showing her dominance. The Indian led the game 11-5 as the players went into the break. Sindhu extended her lead to nine after the break, with only seven points away from another win. Yamaguchi once again came back into the match through a series of smashes to close the gap to 17-14. However, the two-time defending champion held her nerves to finish off the game 21-16 to enter yet another Macau Open final.
Sindhu will now take on the winner from the second semi-final, between Minatsu Mitani and He Bingjiao, in the final tomorrow.
