Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab is planning to move out of their home at Mohali to Pune or Dharamsala after reported trouble with local authorities and poor turnout of fans to the stadium.

Kings XI Punjab, who play their IPL home matches at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, officially informed the Indian cricket board (BCCI) about their attempt to move out of Mohali according to a report in The Indian Express. However, the BCCI is yet to take a decision on the topic with the bidding process of two new IPL teams underway.

“One reason for Kings XI moving away from Mohali is because they are having difficult times with local authorities. Also, the turnout for the IPL has been disappointing. Not too many people turn up. Whereas venues like Dharamsala and Pune have been good for them. They (Kings XI) have requested us and the board will decide later what needs to be done in this regard,” a top BCCI official said to The Indian Express.

Pune and Dharamsala have been listed as possible venues for two new IPL teams, which will be announced on December 8 after the IPL Governing Council meet in New Delhi.

“We can’t commit anything now. What if the two new teams choose Pune and Dharamsala as their venues? We will wait and see. IPL teams do have a choice to choose alternate venue. Delhi had played in Raipur, Chennai played their games in Ranchi. Rajasthan Royals has been playing in alternate venue. So it’s up to the IPL team to decide which venue they will prefer,” the official added, reported The Indian Express.

Kings XI Punjab’s request will only come up for discussion after the IPL Governing Council announces the new IPL teams on December 8 in New Delhi.
