India No.2 in ICC Test rankings; Ashwin No.1 all-rounder

India rose to the second position in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings after the 3-0 series win over South Africa on Monday. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was awarded the Man of the series award for his 31 wickets from four Tests, has also claimed the top position in the Test all-rounder rankings.

After claiming a 3-0 Test series victory over the Proteas on Monday, India climbed from the fourth position to second in the latest ICC Test rankings, which was released on Tuesday. South Africa still retain the No.1 position in the rankings, although their lead at the top has been cut from 16 points to four. Australia, who currently occupy the third position, can overtake India in the rankings it they are able to win the series against the West Indies 3-0.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who sits in the second position in the ICC Test bowlers rankings, has also claimed top spot in the Test all-rounder rankings after his figures of two for 26, five for 61 and 56 not out in the Test at Kotla. Ashwin’s performance with the bat and ball in the last Test has helped him move ahead of Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan. Ashwin also reduced the gap in the Test bowlers’ rankings with table-topper Dale Steyn’s lead cut to just four points.

Ashwin’s partner in crime Ravindra Jadeja also climbed up in the ranking moving from 11th to his career best ranking of seventh. Umesh Yadav also moved up in the rankings to a career-best 32nd position.

Ajinkya Rahane, who scored centuries in each innings in the Test at Kotla stormed up 12 places to move to a career best 12th rank to become the highest ranked Indian batsmen - above Virat Kohli (up by two places to 14th), Murali Vijay (down by four places to 16th) and Cheteshwar Pujara (down by two places to 17th).
