BCCI on clean-up drive; N Srinivasan loses ICC Chairman post
Shashank Manohar, President of the Indian Cricket Board, showed swift delivery on his promise to clean up Indian cricket. The Board's 86th AGM, underway in Mumbai on Monday, has announced a slew of measures including the removal of N Srinivasan from the post of ICC chairman and has axed Ravi Shastri and Roger Binny on conflict of interest issues.
The move to remove N Srinivasan was on expected lines after the recent change at the helm of the BCCI. Srinivasan's case was expected to be top of the agenda at the AGM after newly elected BCCI President Shashank Manohar resolved to clean up the cricket scene in the country.
The decision virtually signals the end of the vice-like grip the Chennai strongman had over cricket affairs in the country. Srinivasan, who took over the ICC post in June last year, was set to continue till June of next year. The term, however, will now be completed by Manohar following his nomination by the BCCI. In the even of Manohar not being available, the BCCI appointed former ICC president Sharad Pawar as the second nominee to attend ICC meetings, reported the PTI.
Srinivasan had faced widespread criticism after his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, a co-owner of the Chennai Super Kings, was indicted over charges of betting and sharing crucial inside information. While Srinivasan was not personally indicted, the incident marked the beginning of the end for the India Cements promoter. The former BCCI President was rapped by the Supreme Court-appointed R.M. Lodha committee, appointed to hear the match-fixing charges, for not doing enough to clean the IPL of corrupt elements.
The scandal also led to the suspension of Chennai Super Kings, owned by Srinivasan's India Cements, for a period of two years from the IPL.
Senior columnist Ayaz Menon was one of the first to relay the decision at the AGM.

Shastri and Binny axed due to conflict of interest
The Board also acted upon its resolution to clear the cloud on conflict of interest issues as it axed Ravi Shastri from the IPL Governing Council and Roger Binny from the selection panel. Shastri also serves as the Indian national team coach, while Binny had come under scanner for serving as selector when his son Stuart Binny was part of the national team.

"The perception has to change, there should not be injustice on Stuart Binny, we can't destroy his career. He can't be drawing flak from media that because he is Roger Binny's son, he cannot play," Manohar explained.
On Indo-Pak series
Manohar also reiterated that the fate of the Indo-Pak series rests with the Government. “We need government permission to play against Pakistan and Board decision will be as per the government stand,” he said as quoted by PTI.
On doubts over fourth Test due to DDCA issues
The fourth Test between India and South Africa, scheduled to be held in the Feroz Shah Kotla, has been doubtful following infightin within the DDCA. BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said, "By November 17, DDCA has to come back to Board with all permissions from the state government, if they don't then the match would be shifted to Pune," as quoted by PTI.
