DDCA retort Bishen Singh Bedi's charges, claims readiness for fourth Ind-SA Test
The DDCA refuted former spinner Bishen Singh Bedi's claims regarding widespread corruption in the body and expressed confidence in their readiness for the final Test of the Freedom series. The cricket body also claimed to have the backing of the Delhi Government.
“We are very positive about the match happening at the Feroz Shah Kotla. We have got the backing of the government as well and are confident of making the November 17 deadline set by the BCCI,” Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Sneh Prakash Bansal told PTI.
Former India spinner Bishan Singh Bedi had earlier met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the proceedings at the cricket body and is learnt to have shared documentary evidence, including financial records of the DDCA corroborating the claims, the Hindu had reported. In parallel, Delhi Ranji captain Gautam Gambhir had also met the Chief Minister to express his concerns regarding the state of the cricket body.
Following the developments, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday constituted a two-man committee to probe into alleged financial irregularities at the DDCA.
Bansal, however, has said that the Bedi-led faction had painted a wrong picture to the Chief Minister. “I have the highest regards for Mr. Bedi. I don’t want to speak anything against him. But I believe they have presented the wrong picture in front of the Delhi Chief Minister. Our officials also met the Kejriwal-appointed probe committee members and will do so again and let me assure everybody that the government has backed us,” Bansal told PTI.
The State Government had directed the DDCA to pay 24.45 Cr INR in entertainment taxes which are reportedly unpaid since 2012, while the DDCA has requested for a waiver of the same. “Look, all this has been happening for the last five years. We are working towards our goals of getting things in order and we are very positive that things will be sorted out in time,” Bansal said on the issue, reported the PTI.
