Willian and Alvaro Morata’s goal helped Chelsea to book their place in the League Cup semi-final as they secured a 2-1 win over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. Korey Smith's late goal for Bristol City helped them beat Manchester United 2-1 to knock the EFL Cup holders out of the fray.
Chelsea 2 - 1 AFC Bournemouth
Willian scored the opener for Chelsea in the 13th minute in the quarter-final clash against Eddie Howe’s side as the Blues ended the first-half with a 1-0 lead. Bournemouth kept knocking on the door throughout the entire second-half with Dan Gosling finally getting the equalizer in the 90th minute, which took the tie to extra-time.
However, substitute Alvaro Morata scored the winner just 75 seconds later to send Chelsea into the last four. Eden Hazard skilfully set up the Spaniard through for a brilliant one-on-one finish. They will play Arsenal next in the semi-finals, hosting the first leg in January. The second leg is two weeks later.
Bristol City 2 - 1 Manchester United
Korey Smith scored an injury-time winner that helped Bristol City to reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup after stunning Manchester United. After finishing the first-half goalless, Jose Mourinho's men started the second half brightly. However, it was Bristol City who took the lead just six minutes later against the run of play, thanks to Joe Bryan.
The left wing-back intercepted the ball and traded passes before breaking into United's area and cracking a superb effort past Romero into the top left-hand corner of the net. Their advantage lasted just eight minutes though, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s clever, low free-kick from 20 yards out went below the Bristol wall and settled in the bottom right corner with a slight deflection.
However, the moment of the match came in the 93rd minute when K Smith pounced on a Scott McTominay error and slotted the ball coolly from 10 yards out to secure Lee Johnson's men a shock place in the semi-finals. The win booked them a semi-final match against Premier League leaders Manchester City.
