Men’s doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes outplayed the South Korean duo of Seong Chan Hong and Hong Chung in straight-sets to give India an unassailable 3-0 lead in the Asia/Oceania Group I tie on Saturday. With the win, India progressed to the Davis Cup World Group play-offs.

After wins from Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni in the men’s singles matches yesterday, Rio-bound doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes took on Seong Chan Hong and Hong Chung of South Korea in a bid to finish the tie. With Bopanna serving big and Paes clinical at the nets, the Indian duo finished the match in an hour and forty minutes with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win.

Although the pair created 20 break point chances in the match, they only managed to convert four of those. Their woeful conversion did not cost them much trouble with their opponents failing to produce a good show. Bopanna and Paes also committed 5 double faults in the match, but served 12 aces to edge ahead of the Koreans.

Seong Chan Hong and Hong Chung, on the other hand, only managed one break in the whole match and by the time it came in the third set, it was too little too late. With the 3-0 win in the tie, India progressed to the Davis Cup World Group play-offs, which will be played in September.
