Jisna Mathew wins India second medal at Asian Junior Athletics Championships
19-year-old Jisna Mathew secured the second gold medal of the Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Japan after winning the Women’s 400m event with a winning time of 53.26. Apart from Mathew, other Indian athletes were able to add an additional five other bronze medals to the tally.
Running in wet conditions, Mathew, who had a personal best of 52.65, could only manage a time of 53.26. However, the time was good enough to win her the top spot on the podium. Sri Lanka’s Dilshi Kumarasinghe and Taiwan’s Jui-Hsuan Yang finished in second and third place respectively.

India’s Sreeshankar also secured a bronze medal at the Games after finishing third in the long jump event with a best jump of 7.47
In the Women’s high jump event, Abhinaya Shetty finished the day with a personal best jump of 1.75
Short putter Ashish Bhalothia and 10,000m runner Kartik Kumar also won bronze medals in their respective events to take India’s tally for the day to six.
