Dutee Chand clinches 100 meter gold at Indian Grand Prix
Dutee Chand added another win to her tally as she finished at the first place at the Indian Grand Prix in 100 meter category on Friday. The event was almost cancelled considering the absence of most of the major athletes due to national camps but some prominent names are participating now.
Star athlete Dutee Chand recorded a comparatively easy win as she won the gold medal at the fifth Indian Grand Prix on Friday. She took 11.42 seconds to complete the 100 meter race which helped her finish at the top of the podium, reported The Bridge.
The athletic meet will see participants compete in 16 categories for men and women. Previously, there were talks that the event might get cancelled due to most of India’s top athletes in mid-distance running categories and relay. They are also present in national camps in Jablonec nad Nisou in Czech Republic after a successful stint in Poland saw them winning various medals.
However, the meet being held in Patiala has nonetheless managed to attract prominent sportspersons in the national circuit such as ace sprinter Dutee Chand, Javelin thrower Davinder Singh and women’s discus thrower Navjeet Kaur Dhillon. The event also provides a chance for the athletes to qualify for the Olympics, before heading into the Inter-state meet to be held in Lucknow from August 26.
