My only target is to qualify for World Championships, says Sudha Singh
Sudha Singh has stated that her only goal right now is to qualify for the World Championships by finishing her next marathon in Mumbai under two hours and 57 minutes. If she manages to finish the race in that timing, she will be in contention for inclusion in India’s squad for the Championship.
Sudha Singh can let her chances of making to World Championships survive if she manages to finish the Tata Mumbai Marathon with two hours and 37 minutes. And that is exactly what she has expressed she will try to do.
"My only target is to qualify for the World Championships by clocking 2:37:00. The reason I believe I can do it is
Sudha has a personal best of 2:35:35 that she managed at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing. But of late, she has not been in the best of her forms which is indicated by her timings. The athlete though exuded confidence and stated that she has been preparing for the event since the last couple of months and
"I have been training for the marathon for the past couple of months having joined the camp in Bangalore in October. I competed in Kolkata without much practice and still did well. So I have at least had some time to practise for the Mumbai Marathon," said the 32-year-old.
The athlete also explained that weather will be a big factor going into the event as hot and humid conditions will hinder the performance. She also expressed that facilities for her to prepare are good enough and she has no complaints about those what so ever.
"Weather plays an important role in determining the timings that we manage. For example, it was cool in Kolkata so we did well. But here it’s generally hotter so it takes longer for us to finish the race.
"I have seen the transformation over the years and I can happily say that we get the best facilities to prepare for competitions these days. There is no reason to complain," she said.
