Indian athlete Anu Raghavan will get the Asiad bronze after champion Kemi Adekoya was tested positive for the intake of an anabolic steroid. Adekoya had finished in the 400m hurdles at the Asiad last year where Raghavan had finished fourth with a timing of 56.92s and stayed out of the podium.

According to a TOI report, the Athletics Integration Unit (AIU) has handed over a provisional suspension to Bahrain’s Adekoya as he was tested positive for an anabolic steroid called Stanozaol. The 25-year-old athlete was given the “notice of allegation” during the Asian Games in August last year.

The AIU said on its website that the 25-year-old Kemi tested positive for Stanozolol on November 26.

Now, after the development, Indian athlete Raghavan will get the bronze medal in the 400m hurdles of the previous Asian Games as Adekoya had won the gold medal by clocking 54.87s in the event and also set a new Games record. Quach Thi Lan of Vietnam had finished second with a timing of 55.30s while Bahrain’s Aminat Jamal had clocked 55.65s to clinch the bronze.

Raghavan, at 56.92s, had completed the race and missed out on a medal but after the event, she had protested regarding a lane infringement by one of the podium finishers but without a positive result for India.

Now after the reports of Adekoya’s ban, Anu is all set to clinch the bronze medal with Thi Lan and Jamal taking the gold and silver medals respectively.
