Indian athlete Gomathi Marimuthu has said that she has no idea as to what was the basis behind the doping allegations and expressed her frustration on not being consulted about it before the report was published. Marimuthu went on to say that she is currently inquiring into the matter.

Marimuthu recently burst onto the scene and received widespread attention after having won the gold medal in the women's 800 meters category at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships held in Doha, Qatar last month. The 30-year old recorded a personal best of 2:02:70s, beating her previous record by 51 milliseconds after having clocked 2:03:21s in the Federation Cup in Patiala earlier in the year en route to a gold medal.

The Deccan Herald had published an article which stated that Marimuthu had tested positive for using a banned substance, probably as a result of having taken steroids, and her participation in future competitions was in doubt.

Marimuthu has revealed that she personally had received no intimation about the results of the tests."I myself first saw this allegation in the newspaper. I had heard nothing about it before this and have asked the Athletics Federation to give some clarity on the matter,” Marimuthu told News Minute.

"I don't know where they got this information from and how can they not even ask me about it. I've got the information about this only now and I am still looking into the matter (of testing positive)."

However, her brother Subramani was quick to dismiss the significance of the report by saying, "We have not received any information regarding the cancellation of the Poland trip. Allegations of Gomathi using any substance are false. I don't know who is saying this."
