The second edition of the Indian Badminton League (IBL), to be staged in January next year after a two-year break, gained further momentum on Tuesday following announcements that the Lucknow franchise will be retained by Sahara India Pariwar and Infinite Computer Solutions (ICS) acquiring the Delhi one.

“Preparation for the IBL second season is going very well and we are on the right track. Till now five franchises have confirmed, and we will reveal all very soon,” BAI president Akhilesh Das Gupta was quoted by PTI news agency.

“Presently, I can share Lucknow and Delhi franchises’ owners’ names, as the former is my hometown and later is the place where I stay. Rest we will unveil soon,” he added.

IBL-2 is expected to get underway on January 2 across six cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai.

During the previous edition in 2013, Krrish Group owned Delhi Smashers.

The Chennai franchise will replace Pune Pistons, which was owned by Dabur India Limited in the first edition. The release also revealed that BAI is planning to increase the salary pool from the existing Rs 1.5 crore cap.
