Jayaram back among top-25 in world badminton rankings
Indian shuttler Ajay Jayaram regained a spot among the world’s top-25 in men’s singles following his runner-up finish to Chinese world number one Chen Long at the Korea Open Superseries last week.
The 28-year-old jumped seven places from his previous 32 to move to 25 after his spectacular run in Seoul where he entered his maiden Superseries final.
The Mumbai player is the fourth Indian in the men’s singles top-25, as per the latest rankings released by the Badminton World Federation on Thursday. K Srikanth and P Kashyap retained their fifth and eighth positions respectively, while HS Prannoy dropped a spot to be ranked 16.
Jayaram, sidelined for six months last year owing to a shoulder injury, had also reached the semifinals of the Russian Open, Swiss Open and Malaysia Masters (all Grand Prix level tournaments) earlier this year. His career-best ranking of 21 came in January 2013.
Saina Nehwal continues to retain her World number one rank, while compatriot PV Sindhu also remains at 13.
The women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa retained their number 11 spot, while the men's doubles duo of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy also stayed at 19.
No Indian pair figures in the top-25 list of mixed doubles.
