PV Sindhu to receive cash prize and a BMW car after Olympic win

PV Sindhu's silver medal in the Rio Olympics had various state governments and sports authorities coming out to announce their awards for the 21-year old shuttler. Among all the big-money announcements, Badminton Association of India announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for her coach Pullela Gopichand.

Cash rewards have been flowing in for PV Sindhu once her silver medal was confirmed on Friday. It included the State Governments of Telangana, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

The Telangana government announced a cash reward of Rs one crore, while sources say that they are also likely to gift her a piece of land. 

Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao was full of praise for Sindhu. “Our Telugu daughter has brought glory to the country. We are all proud of her. We will organize a grand welcome for her,’’ Rama Rao said.

As reported by Indian Express, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh for Sindhu. The Delhi government have announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for Olympic bronze-medallist Sakshi Malik, and Rs 2 crore to Sindhu on winning the silver medal.  

As far as Sport Authorities are concerned, Badminton Association of India have announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh for Sindhu and Rs 10 lakh for coach Gopichand. India's chief footballing authority AIFF have also announced Rs 5 lakh each for both Sindhu and Sakshi Malik. 

V Chamundeshwari Nath, president of Hyderabad District Badminton Association, who had previously gifted Saina Nehwal a BMW car for winning the bronze medal in 2012 Olympics has announced that he will award Sindhu a BMW on winning a silver medal at Rio.

“Before the Rio Olympics started, I had said that if anyone from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh wins a medal I will gift a BMW. I am glad, I will be presenting one to Sindhu soon,’’ said Chamundeshwari Nath.

Reportedly, a Vijayawada-based jewellery showroom chain are looking to sign Sindhu as their brand ambassador while real estate developers are likely to gift flats to promote their prestigious ventures in the IT corridor of Telangana.
