India Open | PV Sindhu thrashes Ratchanok Intanon to book final against Zhang Beiwen
PV Sindhu maintained her winning momentum in the India Open tournament as she entered the final after registering a victory against Ratchanok Intanon in straight games of 21-13, 21-15. She will face American Zhang Beiwen, who defeated Cheung Ngan Yi in the semi-final, in the final encounter.
Before the semifinal game of India Open, Intanon enjoyed a 4-2 lead in a head-to-head contest against Sindhu. And she was quick off the blocks taking a 2-0 lead but Sindhu was in no mood to give any chance to her opponent to increase the margin. After the score reached 1-3, Sindhu showed her terrific form by winning ten consecutive points to take an 11-3 lead going into the mid-game break.
She won two more points after the break while Intanon managed a point to make it 13-4. She tried to come back in the game as the match score was 16-9. The Indian shuttler seemed in eager to finish the game as soon as possible and she managed to win it by 21-13 in 20 minutes.
The audience
Sindhu will face Zhang Beiwen of USA in the final on February 4. Sindhu is now India's only hope in the tournament as Indian mixed doubles duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy exited the event after losing in the semifinal. The eighth-seeded pair faced a loss against Denmark's Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen 16-21, 19-21.
